Junior Fellows
IRIS Junior Fellows are graduate and undergraduate students who engage in an IRIS-led or IRIS-supported research projects. In order to qualify as an IRIS Junior Fellow, a students must be receiving financial support through IRIS, as a Graduate Assistant, Research Assistant or an Undergraduate Field Assistant.
The activities of Junior Fellows may involve research, IRIS-administrative support, and other kinds of collaborative work. The Junior Fellows come to IRIS from a variety of academic backgrounds and are members of one of York’s many graduate and undergraduate programs. This diversity actively supports and gives meaning to the interdisciplinary nature of York University and IRIS. Additionally, York students may also apply for funds raised through IRIS to support their attendance at conferences where they present their work. York Graduate students are fortunate to receive excellent support through the Faculty of Graduate Studies’ Research Costs Fund, Graduate Development Fund and Fieldwork Costs Fund. However, the Graduate Development Fund and supervisors’ research funds do not always stretch to cover the full cost of conference attendance, so this is where IRIS can play a supporting role when it comes to the area of sustainability.
