Onur Tutulmaz

Onur Tutulmaz obtained a Bachelor degree from the Engineering Faculty at the Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey. He then pursued a master degree in Economics at the Political Sciences Faculty of Ankara University and he is now completing his PhD degree from Hacettepe University, Ankara. He also studied one year (2008-09) in Rome Tor Vergata University as an exchange student. He has worked at the DGCA-Turkey (Dir. Gen. of Civil Aviation) and at the Ministry of Environment between 2002-2008. He is now carrying out research in his field of economics and sustainable development at IRIS as a Visiting Senior Fellow. His PhD thesis is on “The Sustainable Development and Economic Development-Environment Relationship” and it will include an empirical econometric model on EKC (Environmental Kuznets Curve). The model consists of 45 developed and developing countries including Turkey and Canada.

He believes that the intersection of sustainable development and ecological economics are such interdisciplinary areas that we should learn each other’s points of view and learn how to work together in these fields. Therefore, he believes that the experiences he is going to gain in IRIS will contribute to him becoming an Ecological Economist.

His areas of study to date include growth, international economics, industrial organizations, technical efficiency, environmental macroeconomics, ecological economics, and sustainable development.
