Promoting Community Sustainability: Linking Research and Action

Promoting linkages between communities and universities for sustainable development. Funded by SSHRC.

This three-year research project focused on forging alliances with groups that traditionally have not been part of the research process. The project was undertaken from 2000 to 2003 and led by David Bell at the York Centre for Applied Sustainability (the precursor to IRIS), and Beth Savan at Innis College, University of Toronto.

Their work on Promoting Community Sustainability: Linking Research and Action, received $750,000 in funding from the Community–University Research Alliance (CURA), a SSHRC outreach program promoting linkages between universities and communities.
